1) Chair Pose

For this pose, start by standing straight up and bringing your arms above your head, pressing your hands together and gently bending your knees until they’re bent in a sitting position.

Make sure you’re bent forward and breathing slowly. Hold the pose for as long as you can, then ease back into a standing position.

This pose is quick and easy, and is one of the best yoga exercises for cutting down on thigh fat and strengthening the buttocks.

By holding yourself in a suspended sitting position, you burn calories in your thighs and buttocks, strengthening them and getting rid of any extra fat.

2) Boat Pose

Start by sitting on the floor, then bending your spine back and lifting your legs up off of the ground about six inches to form a ‘V’ shape with your body.

Then, raise your arms out at shoulder level in front of you and hold the pose for as long as you can. Not only does this exercise increase physical strength, but it cuts down on belly fat big time!

Similar to a sit-up, this pose tones your stomach and flattens it, getting rid of fat in exchange for lean, toned muscles.

3) Locust Pose

For the Locust Pose, start by lying face-down with your arms at your sides, palms facing the ground. Then lift your legs several inches off the ground while you lift your arms from your sides in time with your legs until you’re balancing on your stomach.

Both your legs and arms should be an event amount of inches off the ground. Take deep breaths, and hold this pose for as long as you can.

The Locust Pose helps to stretch out your body, specifically the thighs, abdomen, and stomach. As a result, fat gets stretched out and flattened, and calories get burned from the exercise itself, thus leading to some amazing weight loss results!

4) Cobra Pose

Start this pose off by lying down on your stomach, placing your hands palms-down on the floor beneath your shoulders.

Taking a deep breath, slowly lift your head and torso off the ground, using your arms to gradually push you upwards.

Keep your spine curved and legs close together, pushing yourself up until your arms are both straight. This pose puts the abdomen to work again, helping to cut down on fat for a smooth, flat tummy.

5) Bridge Pose

To do the Bridge Pose, start by lying down on your back with your hands at your sides, palms facing downward. As you inhale, slowly lift your chest and lower body off the ground, balancing on your arms and feet.

Your legs should be bent at the knee, keeping your body propped up. Hold this pose for as long as you can for the most benefits.

This pose is a workout for your entire body, specifically your arms, legs, and abdomen. It will help tone and slim your arms and legs, strengthening them and building stamina, as well as help stretch your stomach and flatten it out by burning away fat.

  1. Hi there, great post here.

I never knew that yoga actually helps to lose weight. From my superficial observation, yoga does not seem to even cause you to break a sweat. However, your article have shown some great examples on how it can.

I just want to know if Yoga is safe to be done alone? Is it not better to have a professional trainer to observe the poses that you are attempting? I am afraid not everyone are lucky to have very flexible limbs.

    Thanks and all the best!

    1. Hi Farhan,

Many of the simple beginner yoga poses ( like the ones covered above ) are fine to do alone but if you lack confidence there are usually free local classes in many areas. Hope this helps 🙂

  2. Hey bro,

I like yoga. It’s cool that you made an article with a topic that I find intriguing. My favorite pose is doggy style. Oh wait, that’s a sex position. Sometimes I get them mixed up because I bang my yoga teacher. Her favorite position is the downward dog, if you know what I mean.

  3. usually when i think about weight lose, what immediately comes to my mind is the gym or having to follow a particular diet (all of which will require spending some money)

Now, i have been introduced to a different approach which i am already seeing some positives things about. For example, just staying at home helps to save time, so you can accomplish many more things.

    Glad to have found this.

  4. Hi, Chris.
Great post about the relation between Yoga and Weight Loss.
I knew that with Yoga can have a good body but never I thought even you can lose weight.
Your explanations were almost enough but with using such videos everything is clear and understandable for everybody.
Once again thanks a lot for your great post .

    1. Glad the videos were a help Nasser – we tried our best to get as many visual aids up as possible. Talking about Yoga is a lot harder when you have no image to relate to!

  5. Hey Chris,

I love that I can do yoga, relax, AND burn calories at the same time.

I’m a huge fan of yoga and always wondered if I could turn it into a muscle workout.

My favorite pose is the cobra because I love the way it stretches my back and strengthens my arms.

I have heard that Jennifer Aniston and Liv Tyler are well into this type of Yoga for trimming down – do you know the types of poses they concentrate on?

Thanks for covering these routines and options – any more info on the muscle side of things?

    1. Hi Anthony,

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read our work. I have heard of many celebs using this form of yoga for weight loss but I’m unsure as to exactly which poses they use! From what I gather Halle Berry and Madonna are well into it as well!

I’m afraid this is the wrong article for bulking up – I’m not that clued up on yoga for muscle development but I do know that certain athletes go down this route…

      Hope this helps!
