Vitamin B12 And Your Body

Vitamin B12 is a unique vitamin and essential for our bodily functions. Its the most chemically complex of all the vitamins and that is where the “magic” comes from.

The complex vitamin is hard for the body to break down and that activates and speeds up your metabolism. It’s like the domino effect.

Vitamin B12 does not cause weight loss, but it educes the processes that helps increase your metabolism.

When people are metabolizing protein and fat, energy is produced. This energy helps people lose weight. And it does something else, it produces red blood cells.

These red blood cells help carry oxygen in our body and that in effect helps with breaking down fat.

Vitamin B12 is definitely not a super weight loss wonder, and don’t expect overnight changes after taking it, but it’s without a doubt one of the best vitamins you can take to become a healthier you.

How To Add Vitamin B12 To Your Weight Loss Diet

Vitamin B12 should be part of every bodies’ daily diet. It is one of the vitamin “staple foods” our body needs and yet a lot of us don’t include it in our diets.

The best way to add it to your diet is by natural means. Since vitamin B12 cannot be produced by plants the only real way to incorporate it into your diet is through animal products like meat, fish and eggs.

Here are a list of foods high in vitamin B12:

  • Yogurt
  • Salmon
  • Lamb
  • Lean beef
  • Eggs
  • Turkey

The options for vegetarians and vegans are more limited. Here are a few ways you can add it to your diet:

  • Vitamin B12 injections
  • Vitamin B12 pills
  • Breakfast cereals fortified with Vitamin B12

Get into the mindset of eating healthy and and you will soon see vitamin B12 naturally become part of your diet.

The Added Health Benefits of Vitamin B12

The skeptics may question the effects of vitamin B12 as a weight loss catalyst, but many people have benefited from it, and that speaks for itself.

The miracle vitamin is not only good for weight loss. Adding vitamin B12 to your diet will give you that extra boost for the day, and keep you mentally strong.

Here is a list of other health benefits of Vitamin B12:

  • Vitamin B12 helps regulate your nervous system. It helps reduces brain shrinkage and stress, which is ever so often linked to bad eating habits.

  1. Awesome article you got there!
I myself suffered from b12 deficiency in the past and was forced to take shots to deal with that problem.
Results were almost immediate, and that actually had me searching the topic in depth.
Overall you wrote some great content there, and just so every one knows: b12 really helps with your diet, from personal experience!

  2. I know the importance of vitamin b12. You did a great job of explaining it’s benefits. My question is this. I drink a Monster every day that has 100% vitamin B12 in it. Will that be sufficient for my daily intake? I was getting B shots because a friend said they would help with other things…I forget what now. But I have since moved back home and yet to go in for shots.

  3. Hi and Wow! I knew every other use for vitamin b12 other than the fact it was so useful for weight loss, not sure how I feel about the injections though. Not a fan of needles. I think I will definitely consider adding a supplement to my routine however. Thank you for the information!

  4. I enjoyed this post about B12 Vitamins. I have been doing what I can for a long time to get fit and healthy. I never really knew about B12. I have been taking Vitamin C and multivitamins. Those are the ones I have heard most about. You have got a lot of information here about this vitamin. I thing I will include it in my diet plain. Thanks for the great information.

  5. I enjoyed your website! It has useful information. I was not aware of the vitamin b12 to help with weight loss. I occasionally eat the foods listed on your website (the ones that say have vitamin b12) but I will eat more of them now! I need the help in boosting my metabolism since I am at a sit-down job so the lack of activity can slow my metabolism down.

  6. Hi Chris,
I did not know that Vitamin B12 could assist in loosing weight. Do you you think getting the B12 injections has the same effects has getting the B12 from you diet ? Also, I was wondering how much B12 we should ingest regularly in order to see benefits? Would you have any idea?

    1. Hi there Natalie,

I should really explain that B12 injections are not really an option for an individual looking for a supplement of the vitamin. These injections are made up of cyanocobalamin which is a synthetic form of vitamin B12 – it’s only really supposed to be taken when the taker has a deficiency!

You are much better off just sticking to the natural B12 that is found in animal products – meat, eggs, milk etc.

      Hope this helps.

  7. I am a big fan of vitamin b12 not only is it good for everything that you have listed but it is also great in fighting inflammation in your body, which is the reason that a lot of people with inflammatory disease eat this vitamin, it is also greatly beneficial in fighting fatigue. A great article. I take vitamin b12 every day and every day I am grateful to take it. Great article on the benefits of vitamin 12 for weight loss

  8. Thanks for this Chris. I have a few health matters that need to be addressed and I am finding some answers here. I am not grossly overweight but I want to drop a few pounds. My cholesterol needs to be lowered and gosh, I need more energy. I usually take a multivitamin, but now that my supply is done, I am going to try B12 supplements and see if there is any improvement. Good information.

    1. Hi JJ,

I always find that purchasing individual vitamins and supplements is a much more effective route than using multivitamins. I don’t know what it is, but the multivitamin choices never seem to be strong enough (in my experience!).

  9. So Yogurt has B12? I didn’t Know that.

    Thanks for the knowledge!!

We do not always know the use of what we eat and this article proves it. I have never been a big fan of yogurt or eggs. And because I am vegetarian, I thought I had everything I needed. But you just helped me see how wrong, I am.  I will check the program you recommend.

  10. I think I needed clarification because I’m a little bit confused about what vitamin B12 really does. Does it slow down metabolism or it speeds up metabolism?

What I understand from the phrase “it reduces the processes that help increase your metabolism” meaning it will slow down metabolism. I don’t know if I’m correct in my understanding.

  11. I genuinely enjoyed the article. A lot of insightful stuff when it comes to vitamin B12. That potentially improved weight loss through energy metabolism and red blood cells totally make sense. Thank you for explaining the connection there.

Ultimately, I loved also the message that it’s not your ultimate answer to all your fat problems. That they will take way more than some added B12. Cause they definitely will and anyone, who are trying to convince otherwise, is quite frankly just trying to benefit on you purchasing a supplement or something (essentially taking advantage of you).

Thank you for being so straight forward about this, solid people will definitely appreciate it, desperate people might not. He.

Again, I appreciate the insights! Thank you for taking the time to write the article!

    Have an Amazing Day, ahead!

    1. No problem Rasa – really great to hear that you enjoyed reading the article so much. Have a great day yourself! 🙂

  12. Such a cool application of how to take even more out of the B12 vitamin. I’ve heard many good and impressive things of it, as for the weight loss though – I don’t think I’ve come across that one in the past. The health benefits list I found very accurate. And I love your rawness and honesty in stating that it will not be a “super weight loss wonder” but it will contribute to the positive outcome. 🙂

    I appreciate that.

Other than that, I might be wrong but if I remember correctly clams was a ridiculously good way how to get some more of that precious B12 into your system. If it feels right for you definitely feel free to add it to the list of foods high in vitamin B12.

Ultimately, I believe that anyone should consider either really doubling down on B12 foods or add a supplement because as you made it pretty clear in the article, it does contribute to energy levels and mental well-being quite a bit. As for that, I’m pretty sure anyone can benefit from, even if they are not concerned with weight loss.

Cheers, and have a Great One!

    Carpe minutam,

    1. Clams Matiss?

Nice one mate, we didn’t know about that! Thanks for taking the time to add that suggestion to our article.

  13. Vitamin B12 sounds really amazing. Normally one would expect all these health benefits from plant based foods. I like the fact that it produces red blood cells. I’m already on a healthy diet which I am creating for myself to loose weight and lower body cholesterol.  I’ll be looking more into foods with vitamin B12.
