Yeah okay – it’s a bit of a bind putting up with the smelly breath all day (especially if you are in work!), but allicin, the major active component found in garlic, is wicked for taking on the common cold.

This allicin gives garlic it’s antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. It’s also pretty awesome for healthy gut flora, which rids the body of toxins, bacteria and viruses.

So forget about the smell – get on the garlic (besides, you don’t want to get within breathing distance of someone with a cold anyway!).

According to research published in a Canadian medical journal in 2012, zinc appears to shorten the duration of cold symptoms in adults.

Foods That Boost Your Immune System


I was more than surprised to find out that your body’s fight against illness starts off in your mouth – did you know that saliva is packed with powerful antimicrobials like lysozyme, alpha-amylase and lactoferrin?

It’s a pretty hard task for ANY germs to get past this initial line of defence – those tough cookies that do manage it…end up having to take on our stomach’s hydrochloric acid.

If they are hard enough to win that battle – they then have to take on our digestive system which holds special proteins and chemical compounds.

Finally the germs will reach our own personal army of good bacteria – our final, powerful, line of defence.

I was watching this crazy video on YouTube the other day…this thing has millions of views and it’s on “Gold Digging Pranks”… it’s hilarious.

So this got me thinking…are we being ripped off by medical science?

I mean, they keep telling us that modern medicine and more specifically “vaccination” is the basis of all our good health and improved immunity but is it really…like really?

Do our bodies entirely depend on medical science to develop a good immune system?

Do you believe there are no foods that help build your immune system even better than medical immunization?

And what about our genetic coding…?

Aren’t we designed to build and maintain our own immune systems in a totally natural way?

All the governments in the world have mandatory immunization programs for their citizens as a measure of maintaining “healthy nations”…but who is really benefiting from all this?

We might be receiving the immunization shots or drips at our local medical centers for free but we all know that every government has to pay for these “necessary cures” right?

But wait…this is still our tax money so there’s nothing free after all is there?

Now, who’s gold digging who?

So, what am I saying? I’m I asking you to stop taking your children for immunization shots?

Definitely not!

All I want to say is that you can boost or build up your immune system and get it running at optimum levels by just living and eating right.

There are certain foods and herbs that are well known to modern science that act as the ultimate immune boosters and toxin busters but you will never catch any big corporation campaigning for this…not in a billion years!

They’d rather fund a “Big Mac and Cheese” Ad than tell you how important a carrot is to your diet because they want you to keep buying the drugs they have invested heavily in.

And then of course you have to keep your body well hydrated. Water is an essential part of our internal body system in every way you can think of…

The trick is in trying to keep your food organic and balanced as much as you can.

The immune system is a whole beehive of activity. Each part of our bodies including the brains is actively involved.

And of course there’s what we eat to replenish the required levels of micronutrients that help in boosting our immune system.

Our immune system gets thrown off balance when our cells are oxidized by free radicals found in our polluted environments that find a way into our bodies.

This “oxidative stress” weakens your cells and hence your body’s inability to fight off pathogens or other causes of chronic ailments such as cancer, heart and respiratory diseases, as well as other ischemic or inflammatory conditions that are related to a deficiency in your immunity.

So, what does all this mean?

You simply need antioxidants…and some detoxing…just to keep your body systems running smoothly, and this comes from eating the right organic foods which include vegetables, some legumes, fruits, and herbs.

The keywords here are Vitamins (A, C, E, D), Zinc, Selenium, and Magnesium!

But there’s a twist, we do not get vitamin A directly from anywhere…our body makes it.

What we get from these foods is basically beta-carotene which is converted into the all-important vitamin A through a biochemical process that also requires Zinc to be activated.

The rest of the micronutrients work differently to help us fight off common infections.

1) Green or Leafy Veggies: these include kale, spinach, collards, parsley, romaine lettuce, Chinese cabbage and Swiss chard among others.

These provide you with antioxidants, minerals like magnesium, and chlorophyll. Most importantly, they also provide you with beta-carotene, which is the vitamin A precursor. You can also get zinc from kale.

Veggies rich in carotene also provide several other immune system benefits such as increasing T4 & T3 cells as well as increasing the function and the number of white blood cells. They also protect cells from carcinogens.

Please note: to get the most from your veggies, maybe you should consider eating them raw…better yet…juicing them.

Research has shown that your body absorbs almost 90% of the nutrients found in juiced veggies. This is up from 30% which is the amount absorbed from cooked veggies.

2) Fruits: mango, papaya, apples, peaches, blueberries, lemons, grapefruit, apricots, plums, and oranges all have the right nutrients to help you keep your immune system working properly.

Vitamin C can help us ward off diseases such as scurvy as well as help with the absorption of iron, which is also good news for your immune system.

Most fruits provide us with good amounts of antioxidants. Apples are well known to help keep some harmful heavy metals from our bodies.

3) Herbs & Spices: coriander (cilantro), garlic, onion, turmeric, peppers

4) Beverages: Tea (black tea…) and plenty of fresh clean water.

5) Other Foods: carrots, asparagus, squash (including butternut), turnip greens, dandelion leaves, chives
