Hot Lemon Water For Weight Loss

The antibacterial and antiviral properties in this popular citrus fruit make it a great natural booster for your immune system. It’s also a great choice when it comes to detoxifying your system, and (certain health experts believe that it) aids in cleaning the liver leading to better digestive health.

I’d always heard about the Vitamin C side of things – most of us have by now, but I was surprised to find out about all the health ‘extras’ this yellow bombshell offered…particularly in the weight loss world!

It is rumored to be an effective dieting agent because it increases the body’s metabolic rate (many celebrities go along with this angle!), but it also offers a few ‘less known’ health perks…

lemon juice and water for weight loss

1) We touched on the Vitamin C angle above – most of us have sat through the lecture off our mum…through a hundred different cold viruses over the years! The Vitamin C in lemon juice is very effective at taking on and eliminating immune system deficiencies.

2) A simple glass of lemon juice with warm water before we tuck into our breakfast, helps in maintaining the pH balance of the body.

3) Lemon juice contains a high amount of antibacterial properties that take the battle to infections and act as a pretty ‘boss’ detoxifying agent.

4) There are numerous claims that lemon juice is great in aiding digestion, but recent research has watered down this claim somewhat. If you are interested in finding out more about lemon juice and digestion, I recommend checking out this interview with Ian Musgrave from The University of Adelaide – The Truth About Lemon Water On Digestion And Detoxification.

5) Lemons contain decent amounts of potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium…and are A LOT cheaper than purchasing the supplement formats of these health boosters!

6) Over the last couple of decades, many dermatology experts have come forward and suggested that lemon water can be used as a remedy for many kinds of skin problems. Top of the list is acne, rashes, wrinkles and dark skin spots.

7) Lemon as a citrus fruit, has a lot of natural anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, hot lemon water is excellent for battling respiratory tract infections, sore throat and inflammation of the tonsils.

8) Like gulping through your sports drink when you are in a workout session? Expensive aren’t they? Lemon juice and water is a great ‘cheap’ alternative to these sports drinks, as it keeps the body hydrated as it provides electrolytes.

9) Did you know that this lemon juice and water concoction can aid your dental health as well? Seriously, many people swear by it as a painkiller for toothache, and it’s also known to prevent gingivitis.

The Benefits of Lemon Water For Weight Loss

At the end of the day – we all know that coffee isn’t exactly great for you…especially three cups in succession…just to get going every morning!

Do you think that you could switch the black tar for lemon juice and hot water?

You now know the benefits – give it a try! 🙂

How to Make Tap Water Taste Better

How to Make Tap Water Taste Better

The first thing I usually look at when people inform me they want to lose weight, is their drinking habits (regular drinks NOT alcohol – that’s another article!).

You can get pretty awesome weight loss results just from cutting out sugary drinks and increasing the amount of water you drink…but not everyone is that keen on the taste (or lack thereof) of water.

So today I thought we’d take a look at a few useful options on how to make tap water taste better – simple and healthy – check ’em out!

The Fat Diminisher System is the complete game changer for men and women when it comes to losing weight – Find out more about this revolutionary product HERE

I like to think of fruit options as ‘water enhancers’ – an incredibly simple and healthy way to flavor a glass of tap water.

I would recommend starting off with a few citrus fruit options, such as lemons, limes, and oranges. If you don’t mind the ‘bulky’ feel to your drink, you could go for the more diverse option of raspberries or watermelon.

When the summer months come around, my mother likes to add cucumber and fresh mint to chilled water (extremely refreshing option!).

Add bubbles to water

A lot of people tend to miss the bubbly effect of their choice of soft drink – they find still water a constant reminder that there are sweeter alternatives out there!

I have to be honest with you, I much prefer a carbonated mineral water as opposed to a straight mineral water. Again, add some fruit or fruit juices to the water – see what you can create!

Fizzy water tends to feel like much more of a treat…or is it just me?

Ice cubes in water

I always prefer my soft drinks cold – even in the winter! To go one step further, I would say that iced water tastes better than water served at room temperature.

I’m including this option because a friend introduced it to me last summer…and it was great…

She uses flavoured ice cubes to chill down her water. Simply use fruit additives…or any additives you fancy really…and flavour the water in the ice tray (before you chuck it in the freezer – obviously!).

If visitors pop round, and you want to be more creative, use ice cube trays that come in fun shapes, like stars, circles, or even fish (I like the fish shapes best!)

Drink tea instead of water

Now, before we go any further, I should really point out that we are talking about the more HEALTHIER options of tea here (not your bargain basement standard black teabag from the local store!).

We are looking at herbal, fruit, green, white, and red teas here – the options that are widely considered to be a LOT more healthy for you overall.

These teas contain little to no caffeine and have a great selection of exciting and enticing flavors to choose out of.

First stop is the local health store, or even the health section at your local supermarket – you’ll be quite surprised at what they offer there…if you look hard enough!

If you take to them, don’t stop there – start researching the huge choice of speciality teas that come from all parts of the world.

Drink broth as a water alternative

If you find yourself getting a little peckish throughout the day, and your palate leans toward the savoury side, you may want to try out bouillons or broths.

Now I know this sounds a little strange…but hear me out for a couple of minutes…

There are numerous low-fat and low-sodium versions of these savoury options and at the end of they day – they are nothing more than (a posh version of) flavoured water!

Because these options are water-based, they also count towards your daily fluid consumption (which many people keep track of due to weight loss efforts).

So there we have it folks – five simple and healthy options for you to spice up your water.

Is Whiskey Good For You?

Is Whiskey Good For You?

Right, before we go any further I feel I really should point out that I am not some nutcase that promotes drinking alcohol in any way!

This article is covering the health benefits of drinking whiskey – benefits most of you did not know about.

If you decide to go out and hit up a bottle of scotch tonight then you REALLY have missed the point of this article…

Alcoholism and binge drinking are both very bad news for your overall health, and can undo any possible positive motions that moderate amounts of whiskey can impart.

Please keep that in mind before reading the remainder of the article…

The Whiskey Files

The Whiskey FilesI get that there are countless different images that come to mind when thinking about whisky…health articles certainly ain’t one of them right?

Clint Eastwood slamming back a tumbler before taking out a group of Hard-drinking cowboys in an old western setup or Al Capone smuggling crates through a police barricade…sounds a better fit really doesn’t it?

Most people have a sort of love/hate relationship with this spirit – some love it’s warmth whilst others gag and shiver at the slightest sniff of the drink…

…But if everyone knew the truth about the health benefits that it contains, maybe more people would turn away from the pint of beer?

Whiskey and Nutrition

First off the bat – let’s take a closer look at the nutritional values of whiskey!

Whiskey is actually really low in levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and carbohydrates. At the end of the day there’s not really that much going on inside this golden liquid…well…other than alcohol of course! 🙂

When looking at Whiskey and nutrition we need to be zooming in on its organic compounds.

Whiskey has high amounts of the very powerful antioxidant ellagic acid. This acid is responsible for a majority of the health benefits of Whiskey.

Whiskey and Health Benefits…

Whiskey & Weight Loss

When I usually throw weight loss and alcohol in the same article I’m probably bleating on about fat beer belly’s and ruined muscle tone due to excessive alcohol…but not today!

The key to drinking alcohol and staying healthy is moderation – drinking in moderation (especially whiskey) should not impact your overall weight.

Contrary to popular belief – whiskey contains no fat whatsoever and also has really low levels of sodium.

Of course, it does contain calories and carbohydrates but these come from the actual alcohol not the additives to the drink! These types of simple sugars are rapidly broken down by the body so they can be used for energy.

Whiskey & Dementia

Recent studies have concluded that Whiskey can increase your cognitive performance, therefore, cutting the chances of you getting dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Of course, alcohol is never going to be given as a treatment towards the two but the ellagic acid is known to be brilliant at taking on the Free Radicals in the body.

Free Radicals have been linked to messing about with the neural pathways, this is thought to increase the effects of dementia.

NOTE: So Whiskey can combat the slow decline towards dementia – but only in MODERATION. Drinking a bottle a night may well feel like great fun but it will actually kill brain cells NOT help them!

Whiskey & Your Heart

The older our bodies get the more lazy and lackluster our various organ systems get…this unfortunately includes our cardiovascular system.

Recent studies have come to the conclusion that those of us that consume a moderate and sensible amount of whiskey have almost a 50% lower chance of coming across a stroke or heart attack in their lives.

Remember – the key phrase once again is MODERATION. I cannot stress this firmly enough! Consuming large amounts of alcohol is definitely NOT a holiday experience for your heart!

Whiskey & Cancer

Cancer needs no introduction – globally it is one of the biggest killers known to man! I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there seems to be a large rise in cancer infomercials these days on TV – this is for a reason.

As a species we are desperately trying to find new ways to slow the disease down and eventually (hopefully) find a lasting cure.

We’ve already mentioned the high content of ellagic acid in whiskey in this article a number of times – that is for a reason.

Ellagic acid really is one of the most powerful antioxidant compounds that we can put in our bodies.

As we touched on earlier on in the article – this type of acid battles against (or neutralizes) Free Radicals. These Free Radicals are very harmful byproducts of cellular metabolism that lead to all sorts of diseases in our bodies.

An example of some of these diseases are cancer, premature aging, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

Does Whiskey Have Health Benefits?

More recent studies have also revealed that whiskey can combat blood clots, give your immune system a boost and aid diabetes control.

Now, lets get one thing straight here!

I know I’m starting to sound like I’m repeating myself but I feel this is a very important point – especially with an article like this!

I am not a doctor and I am not promoting the use of alcohol for medical purposes – the articles I publish are based on legitimate studies and a bit of hard research on my side.

If you read my About Me page you will see where I’m coming from!

Drinking alcohol is fine – in MODERATION.

Most of us lead pretty hectic lives and need to let off steam every now and again. Just make sure the party ends when it’s supposed to! 🙂

Negative Effects of Drinking Coffee

Negative Effects of Drinking Coffee

What is it with coffee? Why am I completely useless in the morning until I ‘down’ at least one cup of this tar-like beverage?

I’m not alone though, am I?

Most of us need that kick-start to our mornings even though we continuously hear how bad it is for us.

So what are the real negative effects of drinking coffee and why should we avoid over-consumption if possible?

Let’s take a closer look…

The Fat Diminisher System is the complete game changer for men and women when it comes to losing weight – Find out more about this revolutionary product HERE

The Negative Side to Coffee

High cholesterol, heart disease, and osteoporosis…doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence does it? But on the flip side of the coin, I’m constantly hearing about improved alertness, reducing the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, gallstones, kidney stones and liver cirrhosis for heavy drinkers.

So which way am I supposed to lean? From the sounds of things there are certainly pros and cons for this argument!

1) Hydrochloric Acid

Hydrochloric acid production is stimulated if you drink coffee on an empty stomach – something that most of us do as soon as we get up in the morning!

At the end of the day hydrochloric acid should only be in action when your body needs to digest meals.

Hydrochloric Acid in Coffee

It’s like you’re actually overusing the function when you think about it – If your body has to create hydrochloric acid more often to handle cups of coffee, it may have difficulty creating enough to deal with a large meal.

2) The IBS Zone

Aaargh! Not a good place to be (believe me!).

Coffee does an awesome job of irritating your stomach and the lining of your small intestine. If you suffer from ulcers, gastritis, IBS or Crohn’s disease it’s best to stay away from the black liquid COMPLETELY!

3) Heartburn

Coffee manages to relax the lower esophageal sphincter – a muscle that needs to remain tightly closed after meals in order to stop your food from…returning (yuck!).

Coffee Heartburn

Recent studies have also shown that the decaf brands of coffee can also cause severe bouts of heartburn. They now believe that other compounds in coffee can also boost the chance of acid reflux problems.

4) Is There a Toilet Near Here? (Laxative Effect)

When you consume coffee you are boosting the effect of peristalsis in your body. Now peristalsis is the process inside our body that sort of makes us…release (you know what I mean!)

A sudden dash to the bathroom for instance!

Many people in need of laxatives use coffee to take care of their ‘stomach problems’ but there are problems with this method…

By kick-starting peristalsis, coffee also appears to promote increased gastric emptying. This means that the contents of the stomach are poured into the small intestines before it has been properly broken down.

When food is in this half digested state it’s nutrients are left behind and it multiplies the chances of irritation and inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract.

5) The Acrylamide Risk

Acrylamide is an actual cancer causing substance that grows in coffee when it is roasted at extremely high temperatures.

This means that the darker the roast of the brand – the more acrylamide you will find inside the coffee’s build up!

If you have any questions about the negative effects of drinking coffee please leave them in the comment section below.

How to Lose Weight With Lemon Juice

How to Lose Weight with Lemon Juice

Any nutritionist worth their salt can tell you what a fantastic idea it is to lose weight with lemon juice.

You might have heard it said before that the majority of people tend to “drink their calories” throughout the day, and it’s true.

Almost nothing can destroy your weight loss efforts more easily than a steady influx of sugary, deceptively calorie-dense drinks…

The Fat Burning Kitchen Guide – Your 24 Hour Diet Transformation to Make Your Body a Fat-Burning Machine. Find Out More HERE!

The Drinking Game

Because beverages with high fructose corn syrup are a common staple in many people’s diets, the negative impact of drinking calories is often greatly underestimated.

Bottles of juice are often advertised as being “natural”, which often gives inexperienced dieters the false impression that drinking several of them in one sitting is more beneficial than detrimental.

If you want to ensure that your weight loss efforts go as smoothly as possible, then you can’t fall into the trap of self-sabotaging with sugar-heavy fruit drinks.

Thankfully, you don’t have to completely give up flavored beverages altogether just to stay on track.

With nothing more than a few squeezes of a lemon, you can satisfy your flavored drink fix for a grand sum of zero calories.

Water & Weight Loss

The benefits of drinking water for losing weight are extremely well-documented, and when you add lemon juice into the mix, it only gets better.

In addition to cleansing your digestive tract, adding lemon juice to water gives you a dose of negative charged ions.

Negative charged ions have an invigorating effect on the digestive tract and can provide a strong energy boost in the morning.

Because of the negative ions it contains, lemon juice alkalizes the body. Alkalizing is the opposite of acid-forming, which is the effect of positive ions.

In order to function properly, the body needs to have the right balance of positive and negative ions to maintain a proper pH level.

Many adults have a pH level that is more acidic than optimal, and so just by drinking lemon juice consistently, you bring your body and mind back into a state of balance that many other people often neglect.

The Alkalizing Effect

Even though lemon juice itself is acidic, the metabolic process activates an alkalizing effect when you drink it. When metabolized, lemon juice releases alkalizing salts that go to work at balancing your pH level immediately.

When your body is properly alkalized with lemon juice, you’re likely to experience an enhanced mood.

Being in a calm state of mind is one of the most vital and yet commonly-neglected aspects of weight loss in the world.

When you’re less prone to low moods and stress, you won’t be producing as much of the steroid hormone known as cortisol.

Cortisol is produced in great volume when we experience significant stress, and one of its worst effects is increased fat retention.

To put it in perspective, even if a person has 99% of their dietary habits under control, they can literally stress themselves into obesity by overproducing cortisol from stress.

Lose Weight With Lemon Juice

By drinking lemon juice, you steady your mind and protect yourself from the negative impact of stress-induced cortisol before it’s too late.

As a natural diuretic, lemon juice purifies your digestive tract. Your energy will be boosted, your diet will be untarnished, and you might even see improvements to your complexion.

When you make an earnest effort to lose weight with lemon juice, you’re likely to wind up with even more benefits than you expected.

Is White Wine Good For Your Heart?

Is White Wine Good For Your Heart?

Most of us know that indulging in the occasional glass of red wine can have considerable benefits for our hearts. But what does this mean for all of the white wine lovers out there?

Is red the only type of wine that provides health benefits…or is white wine good for your heart too?

Looking to lose that weight and improve your metabolic health? Check out our review of the Fat Diminisher System HERE

White Wine: A Heart-Healthy Surprise

Good news for white wine drinkers: several different studies have shown that white wine is just as effective as red in enhancing heart function and helping to prevent artery blockage!

It was previously believed that the majority of health benefits provided by grapes came from their skins – which are used in the creation of red but not white wine.

The skins of grapes contain high levels of antioxidants which benefit the heart and other body parts. However, the grape itself also contains a ton of nutrients and powerful antioxidants, which also makes white wine a heart-healthy choice.

To learn more about white wine and heart health (as well as other body benefits), read on!

5 Ways White Wine Does a Body Good

1) Antioxidants Promote Heart Health

We already know that white wine is made without the grape’s antioxidant-rich skin – so does this make a glass of white any less effective for heart health than red wine?

Not according to the majority of studies, including one from a Turkish university which found that even though red wine contains a significantly higher concentration of antioxidants, the protection of cells offered by those antioxidants was not significantly more powerful than the ones found in white wine.

2) Helps Fight Disease

Almighty antioxidants do more than just protect your heart – they can help your body fend off all kinds of devastating disease. In the case of white wine, several different studies have shown that its antioxidant content is particularly valuable in helping to prevent both lung disease and breast cancer.

White Wine Helps Fight Disease

For example, a 2002 study by the University at Buffalo School of Medicine found that moderate white wine consumption over the course of a lifetime improves overall lung health.

Likewise, a 2010 study by the University of Wisconsin revealed that white wine helps protect the body’s cells from breast cancer just as well as red wine does.

3) Aids in Weight Loss

If you are trying to lose weight, you don’t have to swap out your chardonnay for sparkling white grape juice. It turns out that white wine is actually just as helpful toward slimming down your waistline as fruit juice!

In a 2004 study conducted by the University of Hohenheim in Germany measured participants whose diet involved 10 percent of energy deriving from white wine and compared it to a control group whose diet consisted of 10 percent of energy coming from juice.

The study concluded that participants attempting to lose weight by reducing their daily caloric intake saw just as much success drinking white wine as they did consuming traditional fruit juices.

4) Slows Aging Process

Want to look and feel younger? Sip more white wine! While researching the heart benefits of white wine, scientists also found that it triggers the Sirtuin 1 gene (SIRT1). SIRT1 has been shown to help slow the human aging process.

5) Helps Prevent Diabetes

White wine may also help regulate or even prevent diabetes. But surprisingly, this ability mostly comes from the alcohol itself. Since the prohibition era, there have been numerous studies on the effects of alcohol and health – and consistently, moderate alcohol consumption is shown to help prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

Which White Wines Are Best for Heart Health?

Now that we know that white wine can be just as effective as red wine for heart health and more – let’s take a closer look at all the different varieties of white. Namely…are all white wines created equal?

Unfortunately, not all white wines are as jam-packed with powerful antioxidants. In fact, some don’t seem to have very many at all.

Which White Wines Are Best for Heart Health?

Fairly conclusively, research has shown that out of all white wine varieties from all over the globe, certain European white wines tend to be the most beneficial.

The white wines from France, Germany and Italy – specifically the Friuli Venezia region of Italy – are renowned for being particularly rich in the antioxidants tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol.

Now when it comes to variety, dryer white wines tend to be the better choice. Several studies have shown that Chardonnay has the highest count of the antioxidant polyphenols.

Sauvignon Blanc , another dry white wine, is also a good choice because it has proven anti-inflammatory properties.

Sweeter white wines like Reisling and Pinot Grigio aren’t necessarily bad for you in moderation – but keep in mind that since they are sweeter, they will generally contain more calories.

How Much White Wine Should You Drink?

While white wine may be good for you in a variety of different ways, but it’s important not to overindulge. The many benefits of white wine are based entirely around moderation consumption.

Moderation is different for everyone – but it is generally defined as a maximum one 5-ounce glass daily for adult women and two 5-ounce glasses a day for adult men.

Is White Wine Good for Your Heart?

When it comes to heart health, red wine gets all the credit. However, recent studies have shown that white wine is just as effective in promoting heart health and helping us live longer.

But that’s not all – white wine has many other health benefits as well, including disease-fighting properties from antioxidants, supporting weight loss, slowing the aging process and even helping to prevent diabetes.

So white wine is good for you – but some kinds are even better than others. When you have a choice, opt for European varieties, particularly those from the Friuli Venezia region of Italy.

Also elect for dryer varieties like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc over sweeter types like Reisling or Pinot Grigio. But no matter what kind of white wine you end up with, it’s important not to drink too much of it.

Moderation is key; over-consumption will not only counteract the benefits of white wine, it can lead to serious health problems in the long run. So stick to one 5-ounce a glass of white wine per day if you are a woman and up to two 5-ounce glasses per day if you are a man.
